On Friday 17th March 2000 (St. Patrick's Day) I went to the Cheltenham & Gloucester College of H. E. Rag Ball which this year featured a Tribute to BRITNEY SPEARS.
The night started off pretty slow with what I thought were not many people but at about 9.30 the ball finally burst into life with some of the students performing Karaoke for about an hour. Some of the songs performed were AMERICAN PIE, LIVING ON A PRAYER, GREASED LIGHTNING, HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO YOU, RUNAWAY (which felt very odd as The Corrs were on MTV Extra which was showing on the big screen), and an excellent version of WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH.
Then at about 10.30 the BRITNEY SPEARS Tribute came on stage where they performed BORN TO MAKE YOU HAPPY, SOMETIMES, BABY ONE MORE TIME, and GENIE IN A BOTTLE to name but a few. As the performance was like the ALL SAINTS Tribute, I was unsure as to whether they were miming but I don't think they were.
The night was spoilt a bit when a student tried to get on stage whilst the band were performing and had to be dragged off by security, but then again I guess That's ROCK 'N' ROLL!!
